Why choose a Silicone Rubber Keypad?
Rubber keypads offer tremendous design potential for industrial control panels due to the ability to add shape, colour and 3D form to any keypad design. With low part cost, keypads manufactured from silicone rubber offer a wide operating temperature range, long life, and robust sealing capabilities, along with the ability to tune tactile response to match end users’ expectations.
At Diamond HMI, our engineers can provide design knowledge to include a range of hardness’s, which are available to ensure the surface does not wear under stress. As well as plastic keytops to ensure scratch resistance. Different types of robust keytops include:
- Epoxy keytops to provide an even harder key surface (this is not advised for outdoor keypads, as this means it can not be UV resistant).
- Polyurethane / Silicone Coating is a wear-resistant clear spray coating that provides added chemical and wear-resistance to painted surfaces and can have either a matt or gloss finish. Polyurethane coating provides longer key life, with a silky-smooth texture compared to the clear silicone coating, which has a similar feel to the base material.
